the second arrow of suffering

Although we can't control some of our life experiences, we can learn to understand the powerful strength within ourselves to overcome.

There are two types of arrows that streak toward us in life. The first arrow embeds hurt, pain, or suffering. We don't choose the event that releases the first arrow to radiate the hurt within us. The second arrow is our reaction to the first arrow locked in on us. We have choices with how we react to the second arrow.

The first arrow pierces through our identity and whispers hurtful messages about ourself. We can heal from the hurt of the first arrow by noticing the first arrow, allowing ourselves to feel our emotions, willing to be curious, and empowering ourself to find our SELF.

welcome
My desire to walk alongside others grew from living in Haiti during my childhood. In Haiti, I had the opportunity to witness the foundation of healing: compassion to be heard, connection to be known and desire to be chosen.

I graduated in 1995 from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. I worked intensively with families impacted by abuse and addictions through Children's Mercy Hospital. Together, the families and I worked as a team to keep their family intact and stable.

In 2014 I received my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. I received my certification in EMDR for adults and kids with complex PTSD and a certification in Play Therapy.

My psychotherapy experience includes working with all ages and stages of life. In addition; I teach master-level workshops and supervise post-grad therapists.

Outside of my office I love to travel and spend time with my family. At times my four kids have been spread from France, Alaska, Rhode Island, and Chicago, I am always up for an adventure. Our adorable bernedoodle, Riggs, keeps us laughing and visits my office at times.

Life is a journey of various paths.

Some paths cause celebrations and other paths can take your breath away with raw emotions.

Throughout each step, important questions abound surrounding yourself or your family.

I am honored to join with you on your journey, to meet you where you are, and to support you where you desire to go.

As I walk alongside you, we can work towards a deeper wholeness; your own unique journey of purpose.
